Description  
Promethazine is a neuroleptic medication and first-generation antihistamine of the phenothiazine family. The drug has strong sedative and weak antipsychotic effects. It also reduces motion sickness and has antiemetic and anticholinergic properties (via its action on the dopamine receptor D2). In some countries it is prescribed for insomnia when are contraindicated. It is available in many countries under many brand names. Promethazine was developed in the mid 1940s when a team of scientists from Rhône-Poulenc laboratories were able to synthesize it from phenothiazine and a diamine side chain of diphenhydramine.

Application   
1. Applied in adjuvant treatment of anesthesia and before and after surgery;
2. Applied in prevention and treatment of radiation sickness or drug-induced nausea and vomiting;
3. Applied in motion sickness, prevention of motion sickness, seasickness, airsickness.

Function
1. Antihistamine effect, relieving histamine on spasmogenic and hyperemia of bronchial smooth muscle;
2. antiemetic effect, it may be related to inhibiting the emetic chemoreceptor zone of medulla oblongata;
3. Anti-motion sickness, blocking choline in the vestibular nucleus can stimulate synapse disorientation;
4. Sedative hypnosis, it reduces the stress of the brain stem network uplink activation system.
